Welcome to the HOMIGUT laboratory
Host Microbes Interactions in the Human Gut

About the laboratory

HOMIGUT is an international research laboratory born from the collaboration between two institutions: the MEDIS unit at the University of Clermont Auvergne (Clermont-Ferrand - France) and CMET at Ghent University (Ghent - Belgium). For over 15 years, our teams have been joining forces to unlock the mysteries of the human gut and its associated microbiota.

Our strength stems from the complementary expertise of our teams, combining in vitro simulation of human digestive processes, biological analysis, and the study of gut microbial ecosystems and their interactions with the host.

At HOMIGUT, our research focuses on three interconnected missions:
  • Pioneering innovative in vitro models of the human small intestine
  • Decoding the intricate interactions between pathogens and the small intestine microbiome
  • Investigating the role of small intestine microbiota in various diseases
By combining French and Belgian scientific experience, HOMIGUT contributes to advancing our knowledge on gastrointestinal physiology and the role of small intestinal microbiota in human health and diseases.
